Facial nerve repair in neuro-oncology: the current state of the problem. Literature review.
«V.A. Almazov National Medical Research Center», Saint Petersburg

Brief summary

Surgical correction of facial paralysis after removal of tumors of the posterior cranial fossa and the lateral part of the base of the skull is still relevant and one of the most difficult problems in modern medicine and neurosurgery. Severe facial nerve dysfunction, accompanied by cosmetic, functional and psychological disorders, is the cause of social maladaptation of patients. The article, based on the current literature, provides an overview of various methods of surgical treatment of this pathology, aimed at restoring facial expressions and symmetry of the face.

Key words

Prosoplegia, facial paralysis, facial muscles, reinnervation, muscle flap
