Brief summary
The article presents an analysis of urinary steroid profiling getting by gas chromatography-mass-spectrometry (GC-MS) of 52 patients with pheochromocytoma, 12 patients had pheochromocytoma (PCC) with aggressive course of the tumor based on PASS score greater than 4 (PCC + MP).
The control group consisted from 28 patients with adrenocortical adenoma (ACA) without malignant potential (MP). Urinary excretion (UE) of androgens (etiocholanolone, dehydroepiandrosterone and its metabolites), progestin metabolites [pregnanediol (P2), pregnanetriol (P3), pregentriol (dP3), 16-OH-pregnenodiol (16dP2) tetrahydro-11-deoxycortisol (TNS) was increased in patients with PCC and aggressive course of the tumor in comparison with patients with ACA without MP. Non-classical 5-еne-pregnenes: 16-hydroxypregnenolone (16dP), 21dP, dP3-3β, 16dP2-3β, were detected in patients with PCC+MP. Increased urinary excretion of androgens and THS in combination with the elevation of P2, P3 and the presence of non-classical 5-ene-pregnens detected by GC-MS analyses had high sensitivity and specificity in diagnostic of malignancy PCC and may be it?s early features.
