Brief summary
The effect of the neurotransmitter dopamine on the ionic channels of the electrically excitable plasma membrane of Сhara corallina giant cells was investigated. The method of voltage clamping on the plasma membrane with registration of ionic currents under normal conditions and in the presence of dopamine was used. It was shown that the influence of dopamine on the ionic currents of the cells depended on the dose and time of exposure. The influence of dopamine on the membrane structure is was reversible, after removal of the neurotransmitter, a complete restoration of the amplitude and the development kinetics of the current was observed. A 24h- long incubation of Сhara corallina cells in the presence of dopamine (2 mM) produced a drop in the resting potential of the cells, decreased the membrane resistance, and stopped the movement of the cytoplasm.
