Brief summary
Herpesviruses cause severe, often life-threatening infections in immunocompromised patients. They require rapid diagnosis and prompt treatment. Since the clinical diagnostics of herpesvirus infections is complicated and often impossible, various laboratory methods, mainly polymerase chain reaction, are used. In this paper we proposed a new method for human herpesvirus diagnostics using oligonucleotide microarray technology. The developed biochip allows simultaneous detection of eight human viruses: Herpes simplex virus 1 and 2 types (HSV-1 and 2), Varicella zoster virus (VZV), Epstein–Barr virus (EBV), Cytomegalovirus (CMV) and Herpesviruses 6, 7 and 8 types (HHV 6, 7 and 8). The laboratory sample biochip specifically identifies the control samples of DNA of herpesviruses accumulated in cultured human cells as well as the clinical samples of DNA of patients with herpesvirus infections.
