Brief summary
A study has been carried out for detection of postural balance features in elderly men of the same age with postural stability and instability depending on light intensity changes. It has been detected that in the elderly men, postural balance was reduced in a test with open eyes in darkness in comparison with a normal test with open eyes in sufficient lighting. During use of computer stabilometry, the examined men with postural stability and instability in the test with open eyes in darkness showed higher indices of the average speed of the general center of mass (GCM), the average GCM shift in the sagittal plane and lower indices of the GCM average semioscillation in the sagittal direction. The obtained results indicated that in changed light intensity in the elderly men in order to keep balance, postural load on legs’ muscles and joints increased, what contributed potentially to higher risk of falls in darkness even in the elderly men with postural stability.
