Brief summary

The quality requirements for platelets intended to prevent bleeding, stop bleeding, or accelerate wound healing are potentially very different. Platelets intended to prevent bleeding, stop bleeding, or accelerate wound healing are potentially very different. Platelet concentrates with a low concentration of platelet microparticles is advisable to be used for the therapy of patients of oncological and hematological profile. In contrast, for surgical or traumatological patients where acute blood loss takes place, transfusions of platelets intended to prevent bleeding, stop bleeding, or accelerate wound healing are potentially very different. Platelet concentrates containing pre-activated platelets will have high efficiency due to the implementation of the increased hemostatic function. Purpose of the study. Study of the effect of storage environment, additional processing methods, and storage temperature on platelet activation status. Materials and methods. The activation status of 56 platelet concentrates prepared using Trima Accel (Terumo BCT, USA) and MCS+ (Haemonetics Corporation, USA) citapheresis devices was studied during storage. The study used hematological, biochemical, physical-chemical, immunological, and statistical research methods. Results. These studies contribute to understanding the biological changes in platelet concentrates during harvesting, additional processing, and storage under various temperature conditions. Conclusion. A comprehensive assessment of the quality changes in platelet concentrates, taking into account the activation status, makes it possible to personalize the use of prepared donor blood components.
