Brief summary
Child health protection is a priority area of state policy in Russia.
Objective: to assess the availability of pediatricians in the regions of Russia.
Material and methods. The analysis of federal statistical surveillance data presented in the statistical digests of the Russian Ministry of Health for the period 2022-2024 was carried out. Statistical, comparative, and analytical research methods were used. Statistical processing of the primary data was performed using Microsoft Office Excel 2019.
Results. According to 2024 data, there were 51.2 thousand pediatricians in the country, 98.6% of whom worked in medical organizations under the jurisdiction of the Russian Ministry of Health. The highest number was in Moscow (5341 people), St. Petersburg (2797 people), Moscow Region (2645 people). In general, an overall positive trend of increase in the indicator (by 4.6%) was noted for 2022-2024. Of the total number of pediatricians, about 30 thousand (59.3%) are district pediatricians. The average ratio of pediatricians per 10,000 population in the Russian Federation was 16.49±0.35, increasing by 4.3% over the observation period. In 2024, the highest ratio was in St. Petersburg (29.82), Nenets (26.99), and Yamalo-Nenets (24.85) autonomous okrugs, while in Moscow it was 23.11 per 10,000 population. The average ratio of district pediatricians in the Russian Federation was 9.71±0.27 per 10,000 children, increasing by 5.7% over 2022-2024. The analysis of data from different regions of the Russian Federation revealed significant differences based on the structure and level of development (material, technical, financial, economic, and organizational) of medical organizations in the territorial healthcare system, the state of the personnel training system, and social policy aimed at supporting medical personnel. The regulatory framework is being improved.
Conclusion. Pediatricians are a vital resource in the healthcare system, the vanguard of specialists ensuring the health and well-being of children. Overcoming the staffing shortage through new organizational solutions is one of the key challenges facing the state, defining its planned human resources policy for the medium and long term.
