Analysis of the provision of emergency care for the population of a large city

Brief summary
Patient falls in healthcare facilities are a global public health problem. Severe falls requiring medical intervention are the second leading cause of death after road traffic injuries. Age is a major risk factor for falls.
Objective: to study the literature on the topic of fall prevention among patients in medical institutions.
Materials and Methods: A total of 25 publications from the e-library portal, published between 2021 and 2025, were selected with the keywords "falls" and "fall prevention." The following methods were used: analytical methods, compilation methods, and content analysis.
Results. Fall risk increases with age and is associated with physical, sensory, and cognitive changes associated with aging, coupled with environmental conditions that are not adapted to an aging population. In healthcare settings, patients have a combination of risk factors for falls, increasing their likelihood. Assessing the risk of falls in hospitals, particularly in patients over 60, and implementing preventive measures (lighting, appropriate placement of individuals at high risk of falls in wards and departments, use of low-mechanization equipment, training in motor coordination and balance, and improving patient reaction times) will help improve the quality and safety of healthcare.
Conclusion. A differentiated approach to fall prevention in healthcare settings will help reduce or eliminate injuries and improve the quality of care provided.
