Brief summary

. Rhabdomyolysis is a clinical and laboratory syndrome that characterizes the destruction of striated muscles, leading to the release of myocyte breakdown products into the extracellular fluid and systemic circulation. In this case, a massive release of the main toxic substance occurs - myoglobin with a molecular weight of 18,800 D. Normally, myoglobin freely binds to plasma globulin, and only a small amount of it enters the urine and is excreted through the kidneys. During rhabdomyolysis, a large amount of intracellular substances enter the systemic circulation, such as: myoglobin, lysosomal and mitochondrial enzymes, histamine, serotanin, oligo- and polypeptides, with the development of endotoxicosis, which often leads to serious disturbances of homeostasis and the development of multiple organ disorders, often threatening the life of the patient. The severity of this condition can vary: from a subclinical form with an increase in creatine kinase activity to a critical clinical condition with the development of acute renal failure, requiring monitoring of the patient in an intensive care unit. According to some authors, rhabdomyolysis is currently one of the leading causes of acute renal failure, however, compared with other etiological factors, the prognosis for it is relatively favorable
