Brief summary

Today, improving the system of providing toxicological care to victims of acute poisoning with modern psychoactive substances and substances with narcotic effects is impossible without an epidemiological assessment of the situation. It is known that in recent years the number of cases of hospitalization with acute poisoning by GHB precursors has increased in a number of constituent entities of the Russian Federation. Purpose of the study. To conduct a retrospective epidemiological analysis of the prevalence of cases of acute poisoning with GHB precursors in St. Petersburg for the period from 2015 to 2023. Materials and methods. From 2015 to 2023, a study was carried out of the annual reports of the chief toxicologist of St. Petersburg and the data of a chemical-toxicological study of biological media hospitalized at the State Budgetary Institution of St. Petersburg Research Institute of Emergency Medicine named after. I. I. Dzhanelidze for a 9-year period. The epidemiological analysis included a quantitative assessment of the long-term dynamics of the incidence of acute poisoning with GHB precursors among residents of St. Petersburg, calculated per 100 thousand population. Research results. For the period from 2015 to 2023. The long-term dynamics of the incidence of acute poisoning with GHB precursors among residents of St. Petersburg tended to increase (y=3.65x-3.68, R2=0.68). In the dynamic series, the periods of increase in hospitalization of victims with these poisonings were longer. In terms of the severity of the condition, victims with depression of consciousness to the level of stunning prevailed in 63.6% of cases upon admission to the hospital. Of the concomitant pathologies, injuries of varying severity prevailed in 74.9 [74; 75.8]% of cases. Complications of acute poisoning with GHB precursors occurred in 10.9 [9.7; 11.2]% of cases. Intoxication delirium, as a complication of acute poisoning with GHB precursors, was diagnosed in 2.6 [1.7; 5.5]% of cases and was due to the systematic nature of the use of toxicants. The mortality rate over the 9-year period was 0.17%. Conclusion. As a result of the work, it was established that over a 9-year period, from 2015 to 2023, acute poisoning with GHB precursors for residents of St. Petersburg has a high epidemiological significance, which requires compliance with control measures to prevent the spread of these substances with a narcotic effect among young people.
