Experimental evaluation of the hemodynamic effects of allacidin using transpulmonal thermodilution and arteriovenous blood gas gradient

Brief summary
Phallacidin belongs to the primary mature phallotoxins - cyclopeptide toxins produced by macromycetes fruit bodies. The peptide in question belongs to poorly studied compounds. In particular, the hemodynamic consequences of its toxic effect have not been clarified. The experimental study was performed on rabbits. Phallacidin was used in an absolute lethal dose of 1.27 mg/kg. The criteria for assessing hemodynamic shifts in animals were indicators of transpulmonary thermodilution and integral analysis of pulse wave shape, arterio-venous difference in oxygen and carbon dioxide transport, as well as quantitative shifts in neurological status. After toxicological studies, autopsies of animals were performed, changes in macro- and micro-preparations of the liver were evaluated. It was found that phallacidin in the studied dose consistently led to a toxic disturbance of the distribution of peripheral blood flow, internal hemorrhage with signs of massive blood loss, and myocardial damage.
