Brief summary
In recent years, new designer drugs from the synthetic opioid group have emerged in illicit trafficking in many countries. This was accompanied by an increase in the drug use of the population and an increase in the number of overdoses, including fatal ones, among opium addicts. This phenomenon is called the world opioid crisis. The review on the example of the United States shows the features of this phenomenon, accompanied by massive fatal poisoning. A brief toxicological description of the synthetic opioids involved is given.
