Brief summary
Relevance. Foramen magnum meningiomas constitute the exclusive category of tumors of the central nervous system, mainly due to the benign nature of the process, but they are located in critical anatomical area of significant surgical risk, which determines the planning stage of surgery the choice of adequate surgical access.
Material and Methods: Presented two cases of surgical treatment of patients with meningioma, localized at the level of the foramen magnum. Achieved total removal of the tumor with far lateral transcondylar approach.
Conclusion: total removal of meningiomas localized at the level of the craniovertebral transition, the matrix of which is anterior to the place of entry into the cavity of the skull of the vertebral arteries, is possible only under the condition of mobilization and dorsal displacement of the latter. The use of transcondilar approach allows to adequately perform this surgical technique and reduce the risk of possible iatrogenic damage to the main artery
