Brief summary
The problem of ankle fractures treating has not lost its relevance up to the present time, since there is no single standard of treatment for this category of patients. A number of authors points out unsatisfactory results and high disability in the treating of fractures by the conservative method, and the frequency of infectious complications development, that often leads to disability in the treating by the surgical method.
Purpose statement: to develop a method for the surgical treatment of ankle fractures, that would reduce the negative consequences and improve the outcomes of the treatment. Materials and methods: a pospective analysis of the treatment results was carried out that included 27 patients with ankle fractures (11 women and 16 men) aged 18 to 85 years who were operated on by the proposed method in a delayed manner.
Results: infectious post-surgical complications in the surgical approach area were avoided in all cases. After 3 months, all patients achieved fracture healing and restored support ability of extremity. Analysis of long-term treatment outcomes according to the scale (AOFAS) showed that 24 patients achieved excellent and good outcomes, 3 patients achieved satisfactory ones. Conclusions: the proposed method of osteosynthesis minimizes additional intraoperative trauma, reduces the risk of angioneurodystrophic syndrome in the damaged segment, and allows achieving rigid fixation of fragments for the entire period of their healing. It has low injury rate, wide availability and it reduces the financial cost of patient`s treatment.
