Brief summary
The chemical composition of groundwater is determined by the aquifers features and characteristics, its security and water intake wells sanitary condition and the vital activity of microbial communities living in water-bearing rocks. As a result, the groundwater`s chemical composition doesn`t comply with sanitary legislation due to natural factors. The object of research in this work is underground water sources of drinking and household water supply in settlements of the Leningrad region, the subject of research is information about the quality of drinking water from these sources. The purpose of the study. Hygienic characteristics of the underground water horizons elemental composition in the Leningrad region. Materials and methods. Literature sources on the groundwater chemical composition formation peculiarities and the toxic effects of elements entering the body with drinking water, reports on the results of groundwater reserves searches and assessments for the settlements water supply; laboratory studies of the drinking water quality from underground water sources in the Leningrad region. Methods: content analysis of literary sources, system analysis, statistical analysis. Results. The analysis of the water supply organization in the Leningrad region at the expense of underground sources and the analysis of the array of underground drinking water sources quality studies in the Leningrad region is carried out. A list of indicators and substances exceeding the MPC has been compiled. The organs and systems and the potential harmful effects of these substances have been identified. Conclusions. Aquifers water quality analysis on the territory of the Leningrad region shows a significant amount of substances exceeding the MPC, primarily substances of the 1-2 hazard class. The likely harmful effect on various organs and systems can be reduced by introducing special methods of water treatment that correspond to the characteristics of the underground water sources composition in the Leningrad region to prevent possible drinking water toxic effects on public health.
