Brief summary

Prehabilitation is the process of increasing the functional reserves of the patient's body, in order to reduce surgical stress, improve the results of surgery and early recovery of the patient's condition. In the course of unimodal prehabilitation, the patient is prescribed only a set of physical exercises; in case of multimodal exercise correction of nutritional insufficiency, anemia and psychological support are added to physical exertion. Colorectal cancer is a disease with frequent surgical treatment, which is ideal for prehabilitation. Many studies show positive results in terms of increased functional reserves, reduced hospitalization, rapid recovery of pre-operative physical activity, timely initiation of adjuvant treatment and reduced postoperative complications. However, in about 30% of patients, prehabilitation is ineffective, especially in elderly and comorbid patients. The cornerstone is patient compliance. Adherence to the prehabilitation program according to different studies ranges from 16 to 100%. The choice of the optimal duration and intensity of physical activity remains unresolved.
