Optic nerve head parameters in pseudoexfoliation syndrome without glaucoma

Brief summary

Purpose. To evaluate the effect of pseudoexfoliation syndrome (PXF) on the morphometric characteristics of optic nerve head, measured by optical coherence tomography (OCT) in non-glaucoma patients. Materials and methods. 25 patients (30 eyes) with PXF (mean age 74 ?6.05 yr) and 25 age-matched (mean age 70.50?7.66 yr) patients (29 eyes) without PXF (control group) were included in the study. Mean thickness of retinal nerve fiber layer and the optic nerve head characteristics (optic disc diameter, area and volume, rim area and volume, cup area and volume and cup/disc area ratio) were measured with OCT and compared in the groups. Results. The mean thickness of retinal nerve fiber layer and morphometric characteristics of the optic nerve head in PXS group were not significantly different compared with control group (p>0.05). Conclusion. There is no direct correlation between pseudoexfoliation syndrome and morphometric characteristic of the optic nerve head in patients without glaucoma.
