Brief summary
Objective: this article presents a new look at the function of paranasal sinuses, presenting a personalized approach to the function of each compartment individually as part of a common system of perception and analysis of multimodal air signals.
Methods: general logical methods were used (analysis, synthesis, induction, deduction, analogy).
Results: paranasal sinuses are a sensory air signal system consisting of several separate compartments with an individual functional task. Frontal sinus is a variometer. Ethmoid cells labyrinth performs various functions of a hygrometer or a thermometer. Maxillary and sphenoid sinuses acts as a flowmeters allows to calculate the velocity.
Conclusions: the system includes a peripheral department consisting of manometry boxes located in the bones of the facial skull (paranasal sinuses mucosae) with pressure receivers (openings of the sinuses), conducting department (pathways, nuclei of the medulla oblongata and thalamus), central department (projection area of the cortex).
