The application of a new method for treating fractures of the distal forearm and its technical support

Brief summary

A new way is set out, as well as the results of an earlier developed and anatomically justified new method of assisting patients with fractures of the distal forearm, which has a low invasiveness, accessibility and technical simplicity of its implementation. It allows to carry out an effective minimally invasive and at the same time financially low-cost treatment of distal forearm fractures. The clinical application of the proposed method has shown its reliability, efficiency and the possibility of use even in patients with severe mechanical damage during various periods of traumatic illness. Materials and methods. In the period from 2015 till 2018 the developed method of treatment was carried out in 125 patients with various types of fractures of the distal forearm and duration from the moment of injury up to three weeks. The functional effect of the treatment was estimated in 3, 12 and 36 months from the time of surgery. The results of the treatment were studied using the DASH subjective assessment scale (1996). The aim of this work was to create a widely available, effective and, at the same time, minimally invasive method of osteosynthesis of distal forearm fractures, allowing to prevent in a large extent complications of both conservative and surgical methods of treatment, reduce the cost of the latter, and also make a device that contributes to the implementation of the proposed development.
