Brief summary
A new technology was developed to investigate red blood cell (RBC) oxygen exchange in an open system device. The new experimental approach makes it possible to study the RBC cell oxygen exchange at an expanded scale and within physiological range of oxygen partial pressure. It was demonstrated that RBC oxygen exchange rate was inhibited by mercury chloride and Thiopental which was interpreted to indicate the involvement of AQP1 in the process. The data were obtained on the activating effect of low concentrations of Perftoran on RBC oxygen exchange.
